Getting Started

Create your first Minute Mediator Session in just a few simple steps.

Tip: If this is your first mediation with Minute Mediator you may wish to familiarize yourself with the digital mediation process first.

Create a Session

To start creating a new Session you can either:

  • Click on the Host button on the top right of any page.
  • Click on the New Session button on the bottom right of the Dashboard.

Provide Case details

Create Session Page

At minimum you will need to provide:

  • The name of the case you will be mediating
  • Your role (Plaintiff or Defendant)

If you need to schedule a Session for a later date select the Schedule Session option. Leaving this option unchecked will create an on-demand Session which can be started immediately.

You may also wish to provide your opponent’s email address if available.

To learn more about the options on this page see: Creating a Session

Pay for your Session

Enter payment details or if available, select a saved payment option. See Fee Structure for more information.

After completing the above process you should arrive at the confirmation page. If you did not choose to schedule your Session you will see a Start button which will allow you to join the Session.

Join the Session

If you did not follow the steps above or chose to schedule your Session for a future date please see Joining a Session

Note: You can join a Session up to 30 minutes before or after the scheduled time. If you scheduled an on-demand Session you will have 30 minutes to join the Session.

When you join the Session you should see a loading screen with your case name. You may need to wait for your opponent to join.

Only when both participants have joined will the Session start, at which time you will see a countdown indicating the Session is starting.

Mediate

Important: Keep in mind, while you will have multiple rounds to reach a settlement during your session, you will not be able to submit numbers that are:

  • Lower than your previous lowest offer if you are the Defendant
  • Higher than your previous highest claim if you are the Plaintiff.

For further guidance on making the most out of your Session see our Tips for Success.

Enter Numbers

Once on the mediation page you will be presented with 3 inputs depending on your role, select an option to see role-specific guidance:

Confirmation Page

A dialog will appear with the numbers you entered for the current round, at this point you may still go back and change your numbers.

If you are satisfied with your numbers for the current round click Confirm.

(Optional) Try Again

Session Retry Page

Once both parties have submitted their numbers for a given round, you should see the result for that round. If you were not able to reach a settlement in the preceding round you will be presented with the option to start another round.

Note: There is no limit on the number of rounds a Session can have as long as you are within the time limit.

End of Session

Generally there are three ways an active Session can end:

  • Settlement: Congratulations you have successfully reached a settlement using Minute Mediator.
  • Out of time: If you reach the 30 minute Session time limit your Session will end.
  • Quit: You or your opponent may choose to end the Session early by clicking the Quit Session button.

Congratulations, you just mediated your first case with Minute Mediator.
